From carpentry business to staircase construction - specialists

The success story began in 1978. Treppenbau.ch developed from a small joinery into a leading company in Switzerland, which has established itself primarily in stair construction. In 1992, the company was the first company in Switzerland to purchase a 5-axis CNC milling machine, which was a decisive development step for the professionalization of the company. Thanks to this machine, the CAD-planned stairs can be milled even more efficiently, which means an optimal price-performance ratio for our customers.

Treppenbau.ch AG today manufactures exclusive staircases throughout Switzerland and neighboring countries. Thanks to the use of cutting-edge technology and our know-how, there are (almost) no limits to exclusivity. Treppenbau.ch AG therefore supplies all stairs that can be implemented within the framework of physical laws. The company now produced more than 500 stairs a year. These include stairs such as those in the Novartis building or the stairway of the Rietberg Museum in Zurich.

The company employs 24 people who, in addition to specializing in stair construction, also manufactures CNC products of the highest quality for various industries.
Around 40 years after Fritz Rutz Treppenbau was founded in 1977, the company was completely transferred to the three successors Daniel Kern, Wendelin Brägger and Adrian Scherrer. Three years earlier than originally planned. Through a so-called management buy-out, the new managing directors took over all shares from founder Fritz Rutz and from then on manage Treppenbau.ch AG.
However, succession planning began back in 2011, allowing the company shares to be acquired successively from year to year by the new successors. However, real estate such as production halls, workshops and offices was not included in the purchase contract and so the company had a tenancy relationship with founder Fritz Rutz, who owns the real estate. The next step should therefore be your own property.
The desire for a new production facility was mainly due to economic reasons. In addition, the densification of the housing situation around the company premises in Bazenheid was not ideal. In order to be prepared for the future, the decision was therefore made to leave the previous location and start looking for your own property.
By a happy coincidence, the management came into contact with the property at Neckertalstraße 27 in Ganterschwil and became a trading agreement with the owners of Säntis Liegenschaft GmbH in April 2015. Since the company was still in a tenancy agreement with Fritz Rutz, time pressure was never an issue. As a result, the last two years have been used intensively to design the new location in such a way that stairs of the highest quality can be manufactured. A lot of personal contribution could be made here. However, the know-how of many customers was also used to bring the existing building up to the latest state of the art. With the goal of resuming production in Ganterschwil on 01.01.2018, investments were also made in a new office building, a heating center and a paint plant.
In mid-December 2017, the tents in Bazenheid were gradually demolished and production relocated. Thanks to optimal planning and organization by management and the extraordinary commitment of the employees, a large part of production was brought to Ganterschwil before the Christmas holidays. Only a few working hours were needed at the beginning of 2018 to be able to fully restart production. When the entire workforce resumed work on 08.01.18, production was already running smoothly.
With great motivation, high expectations and also a bit of pride, the future of Treppenbau.ch AG began at the new location in Ganterschwil. True to the motto “Your advancement, our passion.”
